This 4-day program is designed for travelers interested to discover the local ways of living and unique traditions of Vietnam’s northern highlands. An overnight train ride leads to Lao Cai, the getway to the picturesque Sapa mountains.

At Sapa, travelers are presented with the opportunities to trek past scenic rice terraces, meet colorful hill tribes, wander through bustling ethnic markets and stay in an ecologe.

Destinations: Hanoi - Lao Cai - Sapa

Day 1: Hanoi – Lao Cai

– This evening transfer to Hanoi Train Station for the overnight train to Lao Cai, the gateway to Sapa.
– Overnight on the train in a soft sleeper compartment.

Day 2: Lao Cai – Sapa (B, L)

– On arrival in the border town of Lao Cai transfer to the former hill station of Sapa.
– Take a morning walking tour of Sapa for a visit to the busy market where Red Dao, Black H’Mong, Tay and other ethnic minority people converge from the surrounding countryside to sell their silverware and handicrafts, and to buy provisions.
– Following take a light trek to discover Sapa’s quaint hill tribe villages set against the stunning Hoang Lien Son Mountain Range and Indochina’s highest peak, Mt. Fansipan, a picnic lunch will be had en-route.
– Rest of the afternoon and evening at leisure.
– Overnight in Sapa.

Day 3: Sapa (B, L, D)

– Following breakfast journey outside of Sapa Town to a traditional hill tribe village / area where you will spend the night.
– Travel into the Valley to villages where you will start your walk up and downhill through breathtaking scenery.
– Trek along rice paddy terraces until a Tay/ Red Dao/Thai village. Take a short visit of the village before having lunch.
– Continue to walk to the village where you will stay overnight or drive up the valley to Topas Eco Lodge.

Day 4: Sapa – Ethnic market – Lao Cai – Hanoi (B, L)

– Have breakfast before driving to visit a local market (Ban Cam on Tuesday/ Cao Son on Wednesday/ Lung Khau Nhin on Thursday / Can Cau on Saturday/ Bac Ha on Sunday.
– Continue your tour to have a short walk a hill-tribe village. Here you’ll have the opportunity to visit some local homes to understand more on the daily life of these tribes as well as their culture and traditions.
– Following head back to Lao Cai.
– In the late afternoon transfer back to Lao Cai before the night train back to Hanoi.
– Overnight on the train in a soft sleeper compartment.

Day 5: Hanoi (B)

– Early arrival in Hanoi then transfer to your hotel or central Hanoi for onward departure.
